Do you have any collections?
Today’s blog prompt made me perk up a little! I have had an absolutely crazy busy couple of weeks at work and have been driving instead of taking public transport for that reason, therefore, have been out of action from blogging for what seems an eternity. However, I felt compelled to answer the prompt today, seeing as I also missed Thursday Doors yesterday.
Most people think of collections as stamps, coins, or model cars, however, mine is a little different, I collect doors (as most of you already know).
Not actual doors, of course, my house isn’t overflowing with salvaged front entrances but instead I collect photographs of them. Wherever I travel, may it be local or afar, I find myself drawn to interesting doorways. Brightly painted doors in narrow streets, weathered wooden doors that have stood for generations, grand entrances to historic buildings, or quirky modern designs that stop me in my tracks.
My collection has grown steadily over time, and scrolling through the photos is like taking a journey through places I have visited. Each image brings back memories of a particular street, city, holiday, or chance discovery. I have showcased just a few below to show you what I mean. I am delighted to have met so many other door enthusiasts in this blogging community too and I will hopefully continue to find new and interesting doors to show you all.

I love your presentation collages of doors, Wayne. Great idea! You are right, I think that in many ways doors not only tell architectural stories, they connect and introduce us to people. Great share.

Lovely collection of pictures. Doors make for such interesting subjects as they come in such different colours, designs and even shapes. Lots of personality and charm.

Your comment that “my house isn’t overflowing with salvaged front entrances” reminded me of how I actually was dragging around a salvaged vintage door with me for a time as I moved from place to place. I liked it a lot and had planned to install it once I settled but in the end I gave it up to a repurposing store. Your photo collection is lovely. Such an excellent way of being able to recall specifics around your travels and visits. Cheers.

Oh wow Lynette, I would love to find a door that I could call my own and maybe take with me but I appreciate that would not be easy. I love how the doors I see reminds me of specific times or places and little do the owners know that their door is so loved by others.

I hope things settle down at work.

Oh yes Beth, I wouldn’t have the space to store all those doors haha. However, my phone memory may be getting too full with all these door photos.

A very unique collection, Wayne. I think what stands out to me is not just the doors themselves, but the framing around them. The walls, the decorations, the plants and paint. All together, they create wonderful moments captured on film (or digitally). 🙂
Hope you have a fantastic weekend, my friend. ☀️
