  1. I must admit the photo has me a bit perplexed. I did look up “norn iron” and discovered it was Northern Irish slang. I went down a rabbit hole and learned a lot of expressions that I had no idea existed. If I ever visit N. Ireland, I think I will need a phrase book!

      1. I grew up in way upstate NY about 20 or so miles south of the Canadian border. My father always called winter hats toques. I always found this odd until I discovered that the word is French Canadian for a knitted winter hat. Now that I am living in Virginia, no one here would have any clue what that word is!
