Wayne’s Word – salamat po

It’s a little nod to Wayne’s World, but instead of ‘party time, excellent’ (if you are aware of the cult nineties classic) I will be diving into one WORD each day. It could be something I learned, something bizarre that happened, a favourite word that I have rediscovered or just a thought that won’t leave me alone.

If you’re joining in on today’s word, feel free to use this tag to connect your post to the series: #WaynesWord

Today’s word is SALAMAT PO.

I have used this word A LOT over the past two weeks and it simply means thank you. A little word that goes a long way. Let’s break it down –

Salamat = thank you

Po = a particle added to show politeness and respect, especially to elders or people in authority.

Every time I say this to a Filipino, they are so extremely grateful, they even double take when I say it, strange as it sounds, as it’s only a word but I think it really makes them happy. The Filipinos I have met have been tremendously friendly and helpful, reaffirming what I already know about Filipino people.

It has been an absolute joy to attend a Filipino wedding here of my good friends and be immersed in their colourful, warm and loving culture. More to come from the Philippines! We are about to board our flight home to Sydney in a couple of hours so I will hopefully see you all from Down Under.

Doors of WordPress V96

Happy Friday everyone and welcome to another week of doors. It feels weird to even create a doors post on a Friday but I somehow completely missed Thursday. I was in work today when I realised it was Friday and that I had completely forgotten about yesterday being Thursday Doors day!

This week I have one door to show from Belfast. I walked past this door and immediately fell in love with the graffiti caption. I feel that it is a fantastic statement to live by and one that I think about quite regularly. If I’m having a bad day, a sad day or wishing I had more in life, I always like to think of this sentiment and remind myself that it “could be worse”.

Be grateful for what you have, especially in these trying times. If you have clean water, a roof over your head, a loving family, clean air to breathe, legs to walk, good health, not trapped in a war zone etc. you get my point. Just be grateful and appreciate that things could always be worse. There are people out there who have truly a lot to be sad about. There’s always worse off sadly.

On that note, have a lovely weekend and appreciate the little things in life.

Bloganuary Day 17 (2024)

Can you share a positive example of where you’ve felt loved?

Wow! I feel very fortunate that I could share SO many examples of feeling loved by my friends, family and even work colleagues.

However, I will share today that I feel loved every single day by my amazing husband. We just celebrated 17 years together a couple of days ago and we still tell each other everyday that we love each other.

A simple example could be this morning, when my husband cooked my dinner for me this morning so I would have a meal to eat later in work. I feel loved for that kind gesture, that he didn’t have to do but he wanted to, to make my day that little bit easier. I feel very fortunate indeed.

What is something you learned recently?

Bloganuary day 29

I have learned over the past few months that life cannot be taken for granted. We need to appreciate every day that we have and appreciate our nearest and dearest.

Life is short and you just don’t know what life will throw at you. I feel that being a nurse, I have somehow always known this but I think my life over the last few months has just reinforced this and I am more grateful than ever for the little things in life.

Take each day as it comes and have a little patience with what the word has in store for you.
