Are you a good judge of character?
In a word, yes. I believe I am a good judge of character, not because I think I have some special insight into people, but because I’ve learned to listen more than I speak.
Even if someone is nice to me, I pay close attention to how they treat others. Over time, you start to notice patterns, how people behave when there’s nothing to gain, how they speak about those who aren’t in the room, and whether their actions match their words.
If my gut tells me to stay away from someone, I will listen.
I once heard this saying, “Your vibe attracts your tribe” and I am a firm believer of this 🙂
I usually get a certain vibe and turns to be true, but it was learned over years

There is a saying if they are nice to you, but mean to the waiter, they are not a nice person. Which is what you say in a different way. I imagine years of nursing has exposed you to all sorts of people.

My mother was an extremely good judge of character, frighteningly so and I’ve inherited some of that. My OH is a rubbish judge but luckily he has me to put him right.

I’m sure your years of nursing have helped with your judgement. Dealing with so many different people in so many different situations has probably honed your skills.
And I like that last line. I hadn’t heard that before, but it makes perfect sense.

You know you could be right, I never even thought of that Richard.

Beautifully said. Listening really does reveal so much more than words ever could. I love how you emphasize patterns and consistency over first impressions—time is the truest mirror of character. And yes, that final line says it all… the right people always seem to find each other.
Have a wonderful new week, my friend.

Hold the door for a stranger. Choose kindness when frustration would be easier. These small, quiet actions are the truest test of character—both in the one who acts and in the one who observes.
You have a wonderful way of seeking depth in your connections, and that in itself speaks volumes about your character. The world could use more of that thoughtful discernment and grace.
