What TV shows did you watch as a kid?
I read here that someone had written about this prompt and stated that what we watched as a child could inform others of what era we were born in. This could not be further from the truth for me as the tv shows I watched as a kid were very much from the eighties, some of which have now been brought forward into the modern age by having been reintroduced.
The shows I loved were mainly cartoons. Some of them created by Disney and others more like live action, with the use of puppets. I will list a few that I can remember below and please let me know if you have seen or heard of any of these. Are there any people here from the eighties who can recall these shows?
- The Gummi Bears
- Rescue Rangers
- Duck Tales
- Thunder cats
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- Super Ted
- Banana Man
- Mysterious Cities of Gold
- The Racoons
- Galaxy High
- Jumbo and the Jet Set
- Around the World in 80 days
- The Muppets
- Fraggle Rock
- Dogtanian and the 3 Muskehounds
- Inspector Gadget
- Thomas the Tank Engine
- Fireman Sam
- The Dreamstone
- He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
- Danger Mouse
- Woof
Ok so there are quite a lot of shows here and these are only the ones I can remember off the top of my head. I watched a lot of tv as a child. I used to love waking up early and running to watch “the funnies” in the living room, especially at my Granddads house as he had sky tv in the late eighties. This was a game changer as there were so many new channels with all the cartoons on show.
Wayne ✌🏽

I grew up in the 80’s, saw a few of these. My kids almost 30 years later also watched the ducktales.

I remember tv in the 80s, as much as I loved the TV shows (Airwolf, The A team, Knight Rider), Saturday morning cartoons were also memorable, Thundercats, He Man, Scooby-Doo, The Smurfs, Inspector Gadget was my favorite.

Loved Tom & Jerry & Road Runner probably to violent for todays precious little luvies as it never crossed our minds to catapult ourselves across a ravine or strap an Acme rocket to our backs, though these are probably earlier and I’m older.

Today you can watch cartoons from any year past or present so I guess it would be hard to say. As a kid in the 1950s cartoons were so different from those today. Then my girls watched in the late 70s and into the 80s, so I’m familiar with those too. 🙂

It’s amazing what we can watch today. I have no idea about cartoons in the 1950s. I will have to look into that 😊

Well, two of my favorites were, ‘Top Cat’, and “Underdog’. We also had ‘Popeye’, and the Loony Tunes and Merry Melodies which had all different ones. 🙂

I grew up watching Looney Tunes: Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, etc. Cartoons today are so different than they were even in the 80’s. This was a fun look back at what my kids watched then – gosh, I’m getting old!

Us too. It’s a shame they don’t show them anymore.

Aww do they not? I’m sure there must be some channel that still shows them. I have no idea 🤷🏼♂️

Believe it or not, we heard they were too violent for kids to watch, but we all grew up with them, and we’re fairly normal – LOL. They’re definitely nothing compared to some of the video games that are out today. Now I’m really sounding like an old lady!

Found back door. Have to smile. I recognized maybe a handful of them and most I watched in reruns as an adult except Fraggle Rock and Muppets which I caught the originals 😉

I’m from Bugs Bunny, Felix the Cat, Rocky and Bullwinkle era. Only caught the ones you list or some of them because they were on cable when I got to be an adult. Loved Fraggle Rock and Muppets. Some of us never grow up entirely. Still catch old cartoons. I remember when The Simpsons first came out…literally 😉

They were playing in reruns when I first saw them. Apparently the originals in the 1930’s….I’m not that old. We’ve been watching reruns of the cartoons for generations…the originals anyway. Just looked it up. Thought I caught originals…nope 😉
