Bloganuary day 8 – Sadly I can’t go back that far. I have tried a few times in my life and never seem to get past my great grandfather. It’s quite difficult in Northern Ireland unfortunately. There are lots of websites that can help if you live in Scotland or England but for us here in NI, it seems impossible. I can see my great grandfather on the 1911 census but I can’t see any previous censuses.
I am always fascinated with my family tree, I’m not too sure why, maybe as it’s a part of who I am and where I come from. In reality, it maybe doesn’t even matter as we will all be gone one day and no one will remember or care for us. Perhaps that’s a bit morbid to think that, who knows?! What are your thoughts on family trees?

I have started searching district newspapers last year. I drew a blank for years but things are starting to now show up since they have digitised these.

Yes, they are fascinating and in India, there are priests at holy places who claim to be able to provide them. But I am not interested enough to go there!!

It’s not something I’ve ever thought of or even tried to do however my OH’s uncle has taken their family tree back to 1600s, aided and abetted by the fact that both sides of the family come from the same part of the country.
