Fit for life

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?

Many of you will know this already but exercising is my favourite hobby / pastime. From 2017 I was taken over by the fitness bug after having the most amazing personal trainer. She provided me with such an amazing experience and it was the first time I had ever since results. From that point on the gym has become more than just a place to work out, it is my happy place. There is something addictive about that rush of endorphins after a good session, the feeling of strength and energy that lingers long after I leave.

I love seeing my progress, lifting a little heavier, running a little faster, becoming fitter and feeling more confident in my body. It is not just about looking good (though that is a nice bonus I have to admit when you see changes), it is all about feeling good.

The gym also clears my mind. No matter what is going on outside, once the headphones go in or the gym class starts, everything else fades. Plus, it is a great way to meet new people who share that same drive to better themselves. I have met many of my good friends and even had positive changes to my life direction all from going to the gym.

For me, fitness is not just a hobby, it is a lifestyle that keeps me grounded, focused, and happy.

This was me skipping in Perth for the first time in years!

Wayne’s Word – accomplished

It’s a little nod to Wayne’s World, but instead of ‘party time, excellent’ (if you are aware of the cult nineties classic) I will be diving into one WORD each day. It could be something I learned, something bizarre that happened, a favourite word that I have rediscovered or just a thought that won’t leave me alone.

If you’re joining in on today’s word, feel free to use this tag to connect your post to the series: #WaynesWord

Today’s word is ACCOMPLISHED.

The word comes from the verb accomplish, which means to carry out or achieve something successfully.

There’s something quietly powerful about the word accomplished. It is not flashy. It does not shout. It just stands there, finished, earned, done.

To feel accomplished doesn’t always mean climbing Everest or hitting a massive milestone. Sometimes, it’s ticking a goal off your list. Sometimes, it’s just getting through the day and still showing up for yourself.

In fitness, we chase progress but accomplishment isn’t always about size or speed. It’s about effort and consistency, as well as the little wins that build up over time. I was writing about competing in HYROX last week and yesterday came the official photos. It was so good to see some photos of the event and look back at what I have accomplished. I didn’t enter the competition to try and win, I just wanted to experience it, see if I could actually do it and to my absolute delight, I completed it and it wasn’t too bad at all. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable experience that I would love to do again one day.

Deadly Dozen : Done & Dusted

This is what I completed yesterday. So happy I was able to finish this and it actually didn’t kill me.

I wrote a post last week about loving fitness and the gym and yesterday I had the opportunity to compete in the above challenge at a nearby running track. Thankfully I had a partner from the gym with me to share the labours (not the running) and we managed to complete the challenge in fifty minutes; 12 X 400 m runs and 12 X labours.

In addition, I have to say, it was really great to see so many people loving the fitness challenge, different ages, shapes and sizes – there’s a real shift happening and it’s not just about looking good. It’s about mental clarity, resilience, community, and taking ownership of your health. What was once niche or even seen as strange and obsessive is now becoming the norm and it’s really inspiring.

Absolutely buzzing to have finished my first real fitness challenge, now bring on the next one, Hyrox in July!!! 💪🏼

Bloganuary Day 25

I feel I have many things that make me feel strong. My family, my friends, my partner, my environment and my values in life make me feel strong on a daily basis. I feel, with their support, I can take on most things life has to throw at me.

On a more personal level, I think my fitness journey over the past five years makes me feel very strong, both literally and figuratively.

Literally, I am the strongest I have ever been. That’s not to say that I’m super strong by any means but I was seriously weak and unfit before I found my love for the gym. Physically I feel good and my fitness is a constant work in progress. I love feeling fit, strong and healthy and that takes me onto feeling strong also figuratively.

My fitness journey has helped my confidence to grow from a geeky little skinny kid to a less skinnier looking man 😆. By looking after my body and pushing myself I am becoming a better version of me and one that I am proud of. I am not hoping for a quick fix with my fitness and body goals. I am on this journey for the long haul and I absolutely love it. I never thought in a million years I would become a gym lover but once you commit for a few weeks and see results, it grabs a hold of you and you start to really love it, to the point where you miss the gym when you cannot go. Plus, even though I have never struggled with my mental health, I can really see how fitness can play such a positive role in helping to maintain your mental well-being.

Thanks to my fitness journey I feel strong literally 💪🏼 and figuratively 💁🏼‍♂️.

What make you feel strong? Please let me know.

Thanks for reading,

Wayne ✌🏽
