If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
For me, it would have to be Northern Ireland, close to family and friends, surrounded by stunning scenery, and just a hop away from Europe. More specifically I would say a little town called Hillsborough. We absolutely loved living here in 2023 for almost a year. It has the most beautiful forest park, cosy pubs and close to the capital city of Belfast, however, it is super unaffordable to buy property here, for me at least.
That being said, to live in Northern Ireland, a few things would need to change…higher wages, a lower cost of living, and maybe a little more sunshine wouldn’t go astray!

Northern Ireland has always held a special place in my heart. My family has Irish roots on both sides—McElroy and McWhirter—so your post stirred something familiar in me. Lately I’ve been thinking about new places and new scenes, even though it feels a bit late in life to be entertaining such ideas. But, it’s never truly too late.
I moved to Arizona years ago to escape the cold, so any place I’d consider now would have to offer a bit of warmth—that’s non-negotiable. Still, you make Northern Ireland sound wonderfully inviting. I hope you find your dream spot there, and with the right plan and the right timing, I believe you will.

Thanks very much Benjamin! Great to hear this. It is a fantastic place I have never heard of the name McWhirter, what a great name!! I’m sure Arizona would be amazing too, I have never been but always been intrigued.

It seems housing affordability is an issue in many places, including here in Canada too. We’d love to move to New Zealand. But all our family is nearby so that wouldn’t work. So I guess where we’re currently living is where we’d want to live.

That’s reassuring to hear. Wow NZ would be the other side of the world for you too. I hear Canada is very nice though, it’s definitely a place I would love to visit.
