Do you spend more time thinking about the future or the past? Why?
Hmm this is a tricky question. I would say that I spend time thinking of both equally. I don’t like thinking too hard into the future and I don’t like to wish my life away. However, sometimes it’s good to look ahead and try to plan your future somewhat. I would say I probably worry more about the future than dwelling on the past.
I do like to think of the past, either to look back in fondness or as a way of reflection. The past isn’t always easy to look back on with certain things so I try not to dwell on it too much, instead I try to concern myself more about the present.
I want to be in the present, appreciate what’s around me, my family and friends etc. and try to enjoy myself. I need to learn not to stress so much about every day life as things normally will work out in the end ☺️.

such a great answer, Wayne. Loving that you want to be present and not look back or worry about the future. As you’ve said, reflection is a powerful tool for our lives presently and in the future so the past is needed, but just not to dwell there; especially if it’s been painful.

You are right, Wayne – this is a tricky one.
For many years I would write a Christmas Letter to my family and some very close friends. My letter would go through the year chronically highlighting memorable events so that the recipients would be caught up to date where I was in my life. I count that as one for the past. I often think about my parents, my sister and my husband who have passed. There are so many wonderful memories that help me keep them close to my heart. Count that two for the past. I have quite a few connections with both high school and college friends. Our short messages are usually centered around activities that took place many, like 50+, years ago. Count three for the past. I have fond memories of my many work projects over 24 years while working as a computer programmer/analyst. That’s four. I taught evenings at a college where I got to meet some wonderful people and made some great memories. Five. I volunteered at a youth organization helping some children with homework and developing social skills. As well as chaperoning dances, after prom parties and even as “cheerleader” for softball games. That makes six.
However, as I have entered the late fall or winter stage of my life, I realize that time is slipping past.
I think about that diet I am always going to start tomorrow. One for the future. I set goals for possibly walking a total of 15 miles in the month of January. Count that as two. I am always thinking about expanding my garden at our summer “cabin in the woods”. That’s three. I belong to a book club and we are always looking for new books to cover at future meetings. That’s four. Another hobby of mine is painting rocks where the main purpose is to hide them in the local park for others to find, hopefully providing smiles. There’s five for the future. I have just begun work with another neighbor on a special project. We are trying to obtain county water for our 45 parcel subdivision. We are all currently on well systems. If we are successful, this project will actually take several years until fruition. One more for the future.
So that doesn’t leave a lot of time for the current. Except for wordy posts like this one.
Coming up with a weekly grocery list and planning what is for dinner each night, well, that is a chore.
I guess equality is my answer – past and future about equal.

Thanks for sharing! I love your answer. It’s lovely to look back fondly on the past, I think that’s why I love photographs so much. It sounds like you have so much to look forward to in the future too and you sure keep yourself busy. I think we can all get lost in the present too, living a Groundhog Day. I do love a routine too but sometimes I have to throw it to the wind and grab life by the horns. My shopping lists are so tedious haha.

As I told you in my last post the stroke wiped out a lot of memory,so unless somebody brings something up, I really don’t dwell on the past at all. It just doesn’t affect my present life. My past I don’t dwell on, if I do it is simply all about my 4 sisters and 2 brothers I had. That was my favorite time to dwell on the closeness of my family. I have no plans for the future, other than possibly going to Italy in end of April/May. I like to take it as it comes and deal with it because I just never know what or who may be around the corner. So just put me at neutral, no past unless jogged and future up for grabs. 🙂

Love that! Neutral is the best way. I hope you get to travel to Italy. That would be a great post.
