This week I celebrated SIX YEARS of blogging with WordPress, hard to believe it has been that long. I thought this would be a good time to reflect on the highs and lows of blogging, specifically with using WordPress as my blogging platform. Please feel free to let me know if you can relate to any of my points.

My Highs :
– sharing my world, in particular, my travel experiences with my readers.
– connecting with other bloggers.
– blogging is a great tool for self expression.
– it can be exciting when you find a new topic to blog about and you canβt wait to put βpen to paperβ so to speak.
– reading other peopleβs work and learning about different cultures / experiences / destinations from all over the globe.
– learning from other bloggers about the tools available here on WordPress.
– being inspired by other bloggers and sharing ideas about blogging topics.
My Lows :
– I personally find WordPress quite pricey as I have to pay for my domain registration and my personal subscription annually. I guess over a year itβs maybe not too much money but the years come around quickly.
– Pressure on myself to continue to blog often. Now this is something that I know is not important and shouldnβt be pressure but itβs funny how your brain just niggles at you to blog if you havenβt created a post for some time. More so, if I have just travelled and feel I should be blogging as itβs fresh in my mind. I believe I have to blog about it instantly and almost feel guilty if I donβt. I know this is silly but itβs difficult to shake off sometimes.
– I know the basics of WordPress but I am not tech savvy at all and find it difficult to understand all the features available on WordPress, especially the themes.
Thatβs it for me. As you can see, my highs massively outweigh my lows and even my lows are not too bad in all seriousness. I REALLY enjoy blogging and just have to remind myself not to stress too much about how often to blog etc. Itβs your blog and you can blog about whatever you want, whenever you want. HAPPY BLOGGING EVERYONE π

I’ve had a few months of posting nothing and didn’t feel bad about it lol. If it’s a career or linked to a business then I guess it would be different. Go with your own flow! Here’s to another 6 years….

I just read your post and your “highs” and “lows” of wordpress/blogging pretty much match mine. I have loved getting to know other bloggers and I find that even though I haven’t met them in person, I find that I think of them as friends. I started my blog as a kind of therapy to write down my woes, and it really did help. The part that is hard for me is the “keeping up with it piece”. Sometimes I think, “Oh, I should write about this, or I should be reading other posts”, but sometimes I just don’t have the time to do it!

Never force yourself to blog or allow blogging to make you feel guilty, Wayne. It should always be about fun and enjoyment.
And keep a look out for the Black Friday deals WordPress do. I got 40% off my plan last Black Friday.
Congratulations on six years of blogging.

Congrats! Happy Anniversary. I just found a back door I didn’t know existed. It wouldn’t let me respond for the longest time.

My highs and lows match yours almost to the letter, Wayne. I can only add a high: and that’s the friends I’ve made through followers and following others. Congratulations on your 6th anniversary!

I totally get it. In early 2000 I was into blogging, but it was more of a self-hosted blog, all HTML written by me. Very basic, but there was a group of us that used that platform in the same manner as FB or other more common social media platforms today. It was how we all kept up with what we were doing, and I ended up with friends all over the world. Some of those friends we still keep in touch. That blog turned into a WordPress self-hosted that I still have until I figure out what to do with it, and now I’m venturing to this WordPress.com medium. Self-hosting has its benefits, but letting someone else manage all the back-end updates is nice too. Like we used to say back then, Keep on Blogging!
