Tuesday Thoughts 💭 – MAVERICK

We’re just back from the cinema having watched the new Top Gun: Maverick movie. Has anyone else seen it yet?

If you love the first movie from 1986, then you are sure to love this one. I don’t want to give away the story but it follows on nicely from the first movie and has all the characteristics that you would expect from a Top Gun sequel. It has plenty of action with its signature fighter jets, just enough cheese (although not too cheesy), lots of nods to the original story and its characters, a buff looking cast (with its own beach scene), a little romance (not sure if this was needed to be fair) and a great soundtrack. If you love flying, I’m sure this will be right up your street and if you’re like me, who hasn’t a clue about aviation, you will still appreciate the flying scenes for the wonder they are. Especially as Tom Cruise and other cast members performed their own stunts. Also, for the record, Tom looks amazing, considering he is 59 years old. Time has been kind to him 😊.

The jet scenes kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and you really don’t know just how the story is going to go, will they, won’t they. The movie provided some really gripping scenes and I loved how the action scenes were equally matched with emotional ones that could make even those with the stoniest of hearts get a lump in their throat.

The little bit of cheese was spot on in my opinion. The original was a little cheesy too and I think that’s why I loved it so much. In a world that’s so serious at the moment, it was so refreshing to become lost in a movie that was light hearted, warm and makes you feel good.

Let me know if you have seen it yet, what you thought of the movie or if you are planning to see. This is certainly a movie for the big screen!

  1. I saw the first one but don’t remember too much and was never much of a Cruise fan, however, the
photography is marvelous on this one and the action keeps going. The basic story, photography, and action carried it through. They even threw in one woman pilot to even out some of the testosterone flying around. ( no pun intended.) If you want visual and action it’s your movie. I liked it.

  2. Honestly I didn’t bother making plans to see it because I was so convinced it would flop – seriously, it had big boots to fill! But yours is one of many many positive reviews I’ve heard, so I’m off to the cinema ASAP. Totally agree about the first one being a bit cheesy in the best way!

  3. Yes!! Saw it, loved It! I really don’t remember much from first movie. I loved the connection the “team” had. Romance part was small, and I also thought it could have been left out. I was on the edge of my seat during flight scenes. My favorite line is when Tom walked into the store, dazed, and asked the kid where he was.
